Brentford midfield starlet makes move to German giants Borussia Dortmund

Brentford’s Icelandic midfield starlet Kolbeinn Finnsson has joined Borussia Dortmund after just one year at Griffin Park, where he starred for the club’s development side. The two clubs came to an agreement over the terms of the deal last week and after Finnsson completed a medical and agreed on personal terms, the move has been confirmed.

He leaves after playing 45 times for Brentford’s B team, where he scored nine goals from midfield. After impressing for the Iceland international youth ranks, he made his debut for the senior side earlier this year and has made a total of two appearances for the Iceland side.

Speaking to the club website upon the confirmation of the deal, Brentford B coach Neil MacFarlane stressed his and the club’s pride after seeing one of their promising young talents join such a prestigious club.

“We are proud to see Kolbeinn go to such a reputable club to continue his career. Each young lad that comes through the B Team has their own pathway and for Kolbeinn, he spent some time in the team and then some time on loan, and has become a better player because of it.

“We’ll continue to push our players so that each one of them reaches their own potential, but of course that runs side by side with hard work and determination.”
