Derby County midfielder joins Oxford United for first half of the season

Oxford United have confirmed on their club website that Derby County midfielder George Thorne has joined them on loan until January, with the midfielder far down the pecking order at Pride Park.

Oxford United boss Karl Robinson has been vocal about looking to further improve his squad before the end of the transfer window on September 2nd. A new striker had been his primary target and he can tick that position off the shopping list after signing Matty Taylor on loan from Bristol City. Now, he can also be pleased that further midfield reinforcements have been added to his ranks.

George Thorne has completed a move to the Kassam Stadium and will remain with Oxford United over the course of the first half of the season. A number of injuries have left him down the pecking order at Pride Park so the move will be a welcome one for all parties.

Speaking upon the confirmation of the move Thorne said that after encouraging talks with Karl Robinson, he is looking to get back to full fitness to help the club build on their strong start to the season.

“I spoke with Karl and there are good things happening at Oxford right now,” Thorne said to the club website.

His sides have a reputation for playing good football and that suits me really well. I have worked hard to get fit again and now I just want to get match sharp and help Oxford build on a good start to the season.”
