Leeds and their fans are somewhat hardened to financial difficulties and being on the wrong side of either regulatory or opponents sanctions, but being stung for insufficient use of a loan player could be a new one.
However, this is the case should they not play Arsenal loanee Eddie Nketiah (20) enough during his season-long-loan spell in West Yorkshire according to Football Insider.
Marcelo Bielsa didn’t pick the striker in his first available game in a 1-1 against Nottingham Forest, where Leeds say missed chances cost them, but he did start in the clubs Carabao Cup first round tie last week where he grabbed his first goal in a 3-0 win for The Whites.
However, he was an unused substitute in last weekends win away at Wigan. where Leeds ran out 2-0 winners.
This mornings report from Football Insider claims that Leeds could well be in line for a £4m bill should they not call on Nketiah’s services regularly enough.
Leeds paid an initial £2m loan fee and are contributing to his £35,000 p/w wages, but it is revealed that there has been a penalty clause added to the deal by Arsenal that means the West Yorkshire club will have to pay added funds if the young striker is not used regularly enough by Argentine Marcelo Bielsa.
This should not concern the fans as most believe that in Nketiah Leeds have a gem of a player who will have a massive impact on the clubs fortunes this season.
