It is not necessarily true that Peterborough’s Assombalonga replacement has to be a new signing.
Kyle Vassell endured a tricky time at London Road after joining from non-league Bishop’s Stortford in November of last season, suffering with injury and lack of game time, but an impressive pre-season has put him back in the Posh picture, and is in line to start the first game of the season away to Rochdale on Saturday (unless another replacement is brought in of course).
After scoring four times in pre-season the 21 year-old emerged as the club’s top scorer even with, the now forgotten about, Britt Assombalonga playing regularly. Two of the goals even came against Championship opposition.
So why spend the money? Might be the question on some fan’s lips, when we have a striker on our books who is scoring as often as it rains in the Amazon.
