Swansea City striker to stay with the club after impressive start to the new season

Speaking to BBC Sport Wales, Swansea City striker Borja Baston has confirmed that he will be staying with the club this summer when it previously seemed that he would be heading for the exit door.

Since making the move from Athletico Madrid to Swansea City in 2016, Borja Baston’s time at the Liberty Stadium has been underwhelming, He struggled to settle and make an impact and has been shipped out on loan twice.

But now, Baston is leading the line with confidence after reviving his Swansea career under Steve Cooper. The 26-year-old has bagged three goals in as many games so far this season and speaking to BBC Sport Wales, he has confirmed that he will be looking to stay with the club this summer when it seemed he would be leaving.

“Two years ago I couldn’t show my qualities, now I will,” Borja said.

“I am happy in Swansea, I am playing, I score goals and I don’t have to say any more… I am going to stay. I’m enjoying it a lot and I hope the fans are enjoying it with me. The fans are amazing, I think they are some of the best fans in the Championship.”

Baston went on to add that with more confidence under his belt, he believes he is like a new player.

“I am so happy to score two goals and help the team to win and I hope to score more.

“I think I’m a different player, I have more confidence now and I hope to show my qualities to the fans and to the club.”
