Can Bradford City duo fire Bantams to promotion – big win gives indication

Let’s not beat about the bush, Bradford City were pretty dire last season in both the football they delivered and the displays they showed. Even fans of the Bantams that I know would not shy away from that summary of their 2018/19 League One campaign.

Last season it was relegation for the Bantams, rightly so too. At times they threatened to right things, only for them to slide alarmingly back below mediocrity and then hurtle towards their eventual relegation plight. Most, if not all, Bradford City fans will admit to just how bad their side was last season.

On paper they were decent, but paper and football go together like the promises of comfort to a fool or the promises of food to a hungry man. In both those cases, the fool is left uncomfortable, the hungry man grows more famished. Paper, by its very qualities, is thin, possesses little tensile strength. That was Bradford City last season, it led to their relegation to League Two.

Yet, under manager Gary Bowyer things should pick up, He’s really is too good a manager to be in League Two. The Bantams have set about changing that with a more than a decent set of additions to the playing roster ahead of the 2019/20 season. Already possessing players such as Sean Scannell, City have been busy adding class in James Vaughan and local ‘lad’ Clayton Donaldson. Additions, such as this duo, should be more than enough for a League Two promotion campaign.

Striker Eoin Doyle has left for Swindon Town on a season-long loan deal, which means that the Bantams go-to formation means that Vaughan and Donaldson are the preferred duo up front. That pairing alone, with support from the likes of Sean Scannell and Connor Wood, should be enough to guarantee promotion for the Bantams, with both Vaughan and Donaldson easily capable of reaching far into double figures.

Both James Vaughan and Clayton Donaldson showed their striking prowess yesterday in the 3-0 win over lowly Oldham Althletic. The way both played, with Donaldson also assisting Sean Scannell for an emphatic third, you can rest assured that there’s more in the tank with this Bantams pairing.
