Peterborough United right-back looking to make move away

With Peterborough United confirming the signing of free agent right-back Nathan Thompson after his release from Portsmouth earlier this summer, Posh boss Darren Ferguson has said that Jason Naismith is set to move away in search of more regular football.

Earlier this summer, Peterborough United brought in Niall Mason to provide more cover as well as competition for right-back Jason Naismith. In the early stages of the season, Mason has been preferred to Naismith, with the former Doncaster Rovers defender starting both of the club’s League One games so far.

Now, speaking to the club website, manager Darren Ferguson has said that he has spoken to Naismith, who is now likely to make a move away from the club in order to find more guaranteed game time.

“When Barry Fry put it [the Nathan Thompson deal] to me a few days ago given the circumstances with Jason Naismith, I felt it was a no-brainer. I had a conversation with Jason and he wants to play regular football. I felt when I brought Niall Mason in it would be good competition but Jason felt he wanted to play regularly and he wasn’t happy that he didn’t start the season. We had an honest and frank conversation and now I have to go out and do my job.

“We have acted quickly on it because if Jason is going to move on for regular football, then I have to have two right-backs.”

Naismith was one of the many signings under Steve Evans in the summer of 2018. In his time with Posh, the 25-year-old has played 51 times, scoring one goal and providing five assists in the process. It will be interesting to see if Naismith makes a move away from London Road soon, with the arrival of Thompson likely to speed up the process.
