Charlton Athletic snap up playmaker after leaving Bolton Wanderers

Charlton Athletic have confirmed the signing of playmaker Erhun Oztumer on a free transfer, making the move to the Addicks after his departure from crisis-hit Bolton Wanderers was confirmed yesterday.

On Thursday afternoon, Bolton Wanderers confirmed that playmaker Erhun Oztumer had departed the club, and it has not taken him long to be snapped up. Charlton Athletic have revived their interest in the 28-year-old and moved quickly to bring him in.

Oztumer will be available for selection for Charlton’s game against Barnsley as Lee Bowyer looks to lead his side to another win, with six points from a possible six already on the board. Speaking to the club website upon the announcement, Oztumer has said that he is happy to have returned to the club he used to play for as a youngster.

“It feels great. It’s nice to see a few faces I haven’t seen in a while. I’m very happy to be here and looking forward to enjoying football again.

“I’m a local lad and I’ve kept an eye on Charlton since I left, so I’m happy to be here, playing in the Championship. The team has started really well so I’ll fight for my place, work hard and see where it takes us.”

Addicks boss Bowyer also had his say on Oztumer, giving fans a taste of what is to come from their new number 29.

“It’s a bonus one for us. He’s a very good player, he scores goals, gets assists, he’s a local lad. Obviously, we tried to bring him in during January but it didn’t work out for us. He brings a bit of flair and that craft and cleverness in the final third. I’m looking forward to working with him.”
