Speaking to Get Reading, Reading manager Jose Gomes has addressed the links between the Royals and Chelsea winger Kenedy, who was said to be on the radar of the Championship club late on in the summer transfer window.
On transfer deadline day last Thursday, Reading were linked with an audacious move for Chelsea’s Brazilian winger Kenedy. Reports claimed the Royals wanted to bring Kenedy to the Madejski Stadium, but claims of their interest never materialised into anything serious.
Now, speaking to Get Reading, Jose Gomes has addressed the links to the Premier League winger, saying that a move for Kenedy would not have been realistic and that he is happy with the quality he has in his side.
“There are a lot of rumours in this part of the market and sometimes people think about bringing in one player. But it’s not realistic. We now have the squad ready and closed.
“Now we can say this squad has enough quality to fight for our targets and ambitions the club has.”
With Eden Hazard gone and Chelsea under a transfer ban, Kenedy is set to be in and around the first-team picture at Stamford Bridge. The 23-year-old was involved in Frank Lampard’s pre-season plans and was on the bench for their season opener against Manchester United, in which they were thrashed 4-0.
He has spent the last year and a half on loan with Newcastle United, making a total of 41 appearances for the Magpies, netting three goals and providing three assists along the way. His electric form helped inspire a strong second half of the 2017/18 season, but his form dwindled and struggled for game time at St James’ Park last season.
