Bristol City assistant head coach Jamie McAllister has played down the links between striker Matty Taylor and League One side Oxford United after speculation grew when Taylor was pictured at the Kassam Stadium during Oxford’s 1-0 win over Peterborough United.
Bristol City striker Matty Taylor was pictured at the Kassam Stadium on Saturday, watching Oxford United as they defeated League One promotion hopefuls Peterborough United 1-0 on a windy afternoon.
We covered reports here on The72 claiming that Taylor was closing in on a move to Oxford United with Karl Robinson said to be looking to further bolster his attacking options, However, speaking to Bristol Live, Robins assistant head coach Jamie McAllister has played down the links.
“Not a lot,” said McAllister, when asked if there was anything in the pictures of Taylor at the Kassam Stadium.
“There were bids in for Matty over the window to go on loan. But it fell through for whatever reason, but he’s a Bristol City player.
“We’ve got to do everything we can to get him running and up and going again. The gaffer gave him a few days off after the deal fell through. He went home – and that’s his home town. So nothing much in that. We’ll have to see [if he’s involved in the QPR game].”
Taylor will have to compete with Famara Diedhou and summer signing Benik Afobe for a place in Lee Johnson’s side should he remain at Ashton Gate, with young star Antoine Semenyo also there to provide further competition.
