Huddersfield Town set to beat West Brom and Middlesbrough to free agent signing

According to a report from Sky Sports News, Huddersfield Town are in advanced talks with free agent striker Fraizer Campbell, who was also linked with a move to West Brom and Middlesbrough on transfer deadline day.

We covered reports here on The72 on transfer deadline day claiming that Championship trio West Brom, Middlesbrough and Huddersfield Town were keen to sign former Hull City striker Fraizer Campbell on a free transfer. Now, it has emerged that the latter of the three, Huddersfield, are in advanced talks over a deal to sign Campell.

The likes of Millwall and Blackburn Rovers were also linked with a move for Campbell this summer, but it seems it is the Terriers who are closest to bringing him in. Huddersfield are looking to bring Campbell in with it being a strong possibility that Steve Mounie could leave the club in the coming weeks, with clubs from Europe – where the transfer window remains open until the end of the month – said to be taking an interest.

Campbell would be a cheap replacement but comes with a wealth of Championship experience. Over the course of his career, Campbell has scored 94 goals in 349 games, picking up 42 assists along the way as well. Throughout his career, he has played for Manchester United, Belgian side Royal Antwerp, Spurs, Sunderland, Cardiff City, Crystal Palace and Hull City.

Campbell had a decent season for Hull City, scoring 12 goals and providing six assists in 39 Championship games for the club, finishing as the club’s second top goalscorer beyond Jarrod Bowen.
