Derby County chased deal for Reading man before dropping interest over asking price

A report from Get Reading has revealed that Derby County held talks with fellow Championship side Reading over a potential deal for attacker Mo Barrow, but failed to come to an agreement as they were unwilling to meet the Royals’ asking price.

Derby County were keen to bring in another winger before the summer transfer window slammed shut at 5 pm on Thursday night. Philip Cocu ended up bringing in Bristol City man Jamie Paterson in on loan for the 2019/20 Championship season after being linked with the likes of Scott Sinclair and Jordon Ibe.

However, the Rams tried to bring in another winger from a fellow Championship side earlier this week. The club held talks with Reading over a potential deal to bring in Mo Barrow before the end of the transfer window, but a deal could not be reached due to differences over the two clubs’ valuations of Barrow.

Barrow could yet make a move away from the Madejski Stadium, however, the European transfer window is open later than ours and clubs from abroad are said to have made both permanent and loan offers to try and sign the Namibian winger.

Barrow, 26, has been with Reading for two years now, having left Swansea City to link up with the Royals back in the summer of 2017. In his time with the club, the former Leeds United and Blackburn Rovers loanee has scored 14 goals and provided 12 assists in 82 appearances.

Jose Gomes is willing to let Barrow leave this summer if the club’s valuation is met.
