Blackburn Rovers complete season-long loan deal for Cardiff City defender

Blackburn Rovers have announced on their club website that they have completed the signing of Cardiff City left-back Greg Cunningham on a season-long loan deal, beating the 5 pm deadline to bring in the Republic of Ireland international.

Blackburn Rovers have confirmed on their club website that Greg Cunningham has joined from fellow Championship side Cardiff City, putting pen to paper on a season-long loan deal with the announcement being made after the 5 pm deadline.

Cunningham becomes the club’s sixth signing of the summer transfer window, following Stewart Downing, Bradley Johnson, Christian Walton, Tosin Adarabioyo and Sam Gallagher in making moves to the club this summer.

Speaking to the club website upon the announcement of the deal, Cunningham has said that after speaking to some of the current Rovers players, he is looking forward to getting back to playing regular football, having played just seven times in the Premier League with Cardiff last season.

“It was a quick drive up the motorway, but I’m delighted to get everything signed and done, and I’m happy to be here.  It’s been a frustrating time at Cardiff and I just want to play football, so when the club came in I was buzzing to get it done.

“You just have to look at the history and the facilities here. I also spoke to Del (Derrick Williams) and I know Darragh Lenihan as well. There’s a great squad here and I’m looking forward to working under the manager.

“It’s a new challenge for me and I’m here to give my all for Blackburn Rovers.”
