Middlesbrough striker to stay put amidst Crystal Palace rumours

As reported earlier today on The72, Middlesbrough striker Britt Assombalonga was interesting Premier League side Crystal Palace.

According to Gazette Live, the Middlesbrough forward will be expected to stay on Teesside past the 5pm deadline this evening, putting to bed the rumours linking him to Crystal Palace.

It was reported Assombalonga missed first team training today, which helped spark up the rumour mill once more. But Boro Head Coach Jonathan Woodgate stated this was due to injury.

“He had a bit of a sore calf so he hasn’t trained the last day” confirmed Woodgate in Wednesday’s press conference ahead of Middlesbrough’s home game against Brentford on Saturday.

Although Assombalonga did miss Wednesday’s session, he did train earlier in the week on Monday, with the Boro boss giving a glowing assessment.

“But Monday he trained and he’s been good” he said. “He’s really good. He’s been fantastic.”

A report also claims fan was not able to get the player’s name on the back of their shirt on the official club website, however this is due to ‘Assombalonga’ being over the character limit for children’s shirts and is nothing out of the ordinary, or because he was due to leave for Palace.

The forward is expected to stay at Middlesbrough, and already got his Championship account open for the season, scoring the second goal in the 3-3 draw with Luton last Friday night at Kenilworth Road. Woodgate has also stated that Assombalonga is his number nine, and is expected to play a big part for the North-East side this campaign.
