Sheffield Wednesday’s bid for Nottingham Forest and Queens Park Ranger target rejected

According to a report from the Sheffield Star, Sheffield Wednesday have had an offer rejected for Aberdeen defender Scott McKenna, who has also been the subject of rejected offers from Nottingham Forest and Queens Park Rangers.

Earlier this month, we covered reports here on The72 claiming that Aberdeen defender Scott McKenna was the subject of offers from Nottingham Forest and Queens Park Rangers. Now, it has been revealed that another Championship club has joined the chase on deadline day.

Sheffield Wednesday have lodged a bid to try and sign McKenna on Deadline Day, with the Scot having a transfer request turned down by Aberdeen. Derek McInnes is determined to keep him at the club this summer and the club are in no position where they will feel obliged to sell the Scotland international this summer.

Speaking yesterday regarding the interest in McKenna, Dons boss McInnes had this to say:

“Clubs have had every opportunity to put their best foot forward over the past few weeks.

“Any club who is trying to deal so close to the game shows a total disregard for us, on the eve of such an important game.

“It is hardly ideal preparation. It is a Europa League game, a very important game, and these clubs have had the whole summer to do a deal and there is a degree of anger, frustration and contempt towards these clubs for trying to put their best foot forward now.”

The 22-year-old has become a mainstay in the Aberdeen side since coming through the youth academy and making his breakthrough into the club’s senior side. Having spent time on loan with Ayr United and Alloa Athletic, McKenna has gone on to play 80 times for the club, scoring five goals and providing a single assist along the way.
