Pennington, Heneghan, Whiteman- What happens today for Hull City?

Hull City are keen on bringing in a central defender today first and foremost.

The Tigers have been linked with Everton defender Matthew Pennington and Sheffield United’s Ben Heneghan over the past 24 hours so one of those two could be on their way to the KCOM Stadium today before the 5pm deadline.

It is no secret that Markus Henriksen is expected to leave Hull this summer, however the club has until the end of the month to sell him abroad so that move may not happen today. Stephen Kingsley is another who could potentially depart today.

Grant McCann is eager to bring in a central midfielder but a defender will be the priority. A bid was rejected by Doncaster Rovers for their skipper Ben Whiteman the other day, whilst the likes of Wigan Athletic’s Leonardo Lopes and Liverpool’s Herbie Kane are two other midfielders that have been on their radar this summer.

The club could make a late move for their targets today but they will all apparently depend on funds, despite receiving big money from Harry Maguire move from Leicester City to Manchester United this week.

Many Tigers’ fans believe they need another striker, with Tom Eaves and Nouha Dicko the only two senior strikers at the club. Eaves, who joined from Gillingham last month, has limited experience in the Championship whereas Dicko has scored a combined seven goals over two seasons.

The main aim today will be keeping holding of key duo Jarrod Bowen and Kamil Grosicki. If Hull can manage this, the day will be seen as an overall success as those two are integral to their chances of doing well this season.
