Birmingham City launch swoop for ex-Bradford City, Huddersfield Town and QPR striker

Birmingham City have launched a move to sign Burnley striker Nahki Wells.

The Blues are eager to get a deal done for the 29-year-old before the transfer deadline at 5pm, according to a report by Football Insider.

Wells, who is a Bermuda international with 15 caps to his name, has been told he can leave the Clarets today and has emerged on the radar of various Championship clubs.

Birmingham are in the hunt for a striker and have been linked with Sheffield Wednesday’s Jordan Rhodes recently, but could turn their attentions to Wells now.

Wells spent last season on loan in the second tier with QPR and scored nine goals in 43 games in all competitions for the London side.

The experienced forward has played 330 games in his career to date and is proven in the Championship.

He started his career in Bermuda with Dandy Town Hornets before moving to England to join non-league side Eccleshill United in 2011. He had a brief spell at Carlisle United before Bradford City snapped him up.

Wells became a huge player for the Bantams and scored 53 goals in 112 appearances for the Yorkshire side.

Huddersfield signed him in 2014 and Wells spent four years with the Terriers, bagging 49 goals altogether before Burnley took him to the Premier League two years ago.

It hasn’t worked out for Wells at Turf Moor and he now looks set for a return to the second tier if Birmingham can strike a deal for him today.
