Blackburn Rovers join Sheffield Wednesday, Derby County and Fulham in battle for Newcastle United winger

According to a report from The Sun (as cited by Rovers Chat) Blackburn Rovers are also interested in Newcastle United winger Jacob Murphy, who has been linked with fellow Championship sides Sheffield Wednesday, Derby County and Fulham over the course of the past few days.

Newcastle United winger Jacob Murphy has been deemed surplus to requirements this summer, with French winger Allan Saint-Maximin arriving at the club, only knocking former Norwich City man Murphy further down the pecking order at St James’ Park.

And now, it seems likely that he will be heading out on loan once again, with the Championship set to be his destination. A host of sides are keen on bringing Murphy in, with the likes of Sheffield Wednesday, Derby County and Fulham all said keen. But most recently, it has been revealed that Blackburn Rovers could also look to swoop to bring Murphy in on loan ahead of the rest of the season.

Since making the move to Newcastle United in 2017, Murphy has struggled to prove himself in the Premier League. He has played 41 times in total for the Magpies, scoring once and providing three assists along the way. He was sent out on loan to West Brom for the second half of last season, scoring twice and laying on one assist in his 15 appearances as the Baggies won a place in the Championship play-offs.

Now, with the transfer window closing in a matter of hours, it will be interesting to see where Murphy will be playing his football for the 2019/20 campaign.
