Sheffield United and Burnley set to go head-to-head for Bristol City midfielder

Sheffield United and Burnley are set to go head-to-head for Bristol City midfielder Josh Brownhill according to TeamTalk.

The Robins could be about to lose one of their key midfielders before the close of the transfer window with the two Premier League clubs preparing to swoop in for him.

The duo are interested in a deal where Bristol City could potentially request around £15million for the midfielder.

Lloyd Kelly and Adam Webster have already swapped Bristol City for the top flight this summer and they will be keen to retain one of their key players this summer.

Brownhill starred in their defeat to Leeds on the opening weekend of the Championship season but with Sheffield United and Burnley ready to make an offer they may struggle to retain him.

Blades boss Chris Wilder is looking to add extra midfield competition before the transfer window slams shut and has identified Brownhill as a target.

Burnley have been looking to strengthen their midfield all summer but Brownhill is contracted to Bristol City until 2021 and scored six goals in 49 appearances for Lee Johnson’s men last season.

Sean Dyche is a master of signing Championship footballers and turning them into established top flight players whilst Chris Wilder is also adept at improving lower league players so Brownhill will massively appeal to both clubs.

Warrington-born Brownhill signed a new deal with the Championship club in December 2017 and the Robins will not allow him to leave until their valuation is met.

They are looking to improve on last season’s eighth place finish where they just missed out on the play-offs and will not want to lose another key figure from their squad.
