Sheffield Wednesday set to sign QPR midfielder – Leeds United and Nottingham Forest previously linked

According to a report from the Sheffield Star, Queens Park Rangers midfielder Massimo Luongo is on the brink of making a move to fellow Championship side Sheffield Wednesday, having been told he can leave the club earlier this summer.

Earlier on in the summer transfer window, Queens Park Rangers midfielder Massimo Luongo was made available for transfer as they did not want to risk losing him at the end of this season for nothing, with the Australian not putting pen to paper on a contract extension.

At the time, it had been claimed that fellow Championship sides Leeds United and Nottingham Forest were interested in signing him this summer. The Whites dropped out of the chase last month, cooling their interest. Now, it has been claimed that he will be linking up with Sheffield Wednesday, joining the club for an undisclosed fee. The midfielder is expected to complete a medical today (Wednesday) with confirmation to follow.

In total, Luongo has played 152 games across all competitions for the club, scoring 12 goals and providing 15 assists along the way. He played in 41 out of the club’s 46 Championship games last season, remaining a fixture in the club’s starting eleven in a turbulent season at Loftus Road.

He comes with international experience, playing 42 times for the Australian national team since making his debut back in 2014, scoring six goals in the process. Now, after four years with QPR, he will make the move to Sheffield Wednesday, where he will be hoping he can enjoy a successful spell after an impressive stint with the R’s.
