Sheffield Wednesday in pole position to sign Newcastle winger ahead of Fulham and Derby County

Sheffield Wednesday are in pole position to sign Newcastle United winger Jacob Murphy according to Football Insider.

With just 36 hours of the transfer window remaining and with eagerness to get deals completed, Murphy is another player who could be on his way.

The Yorkshire club have edged ahead of Murphy’s other suitors Derby County and Fulham in the bid to land the 24-year-old by tomorrow’s deadline.

Following negotiations, the Sheffield based club are confident of landing their man, with a loan deal the most likely outcome.

Magpies boss Steve Bruce has given the green light for Murphy’s availability this transfer window as he has signed Allan Saint-Maximin and with the arrival of the winger this will surely push Murphy even further down the pecking order.

He has made 41 senior appearances for Newcastle since arriving from Norwich City for £10million in the summer of 2017 but has failed to make a real impact at St.James Park.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at Championship side West Bromwich Albion where he produced some notably good performances but failed to really make a consistent impact.

Murphy, who has been capped six times by England at Under-21 level, is predominantly a right winger but can play in any of the attacking positions behind the striker.

His versatility in forward areas is another area of interest for Sheffield Wednesday who are determined to increase their attacking options this transfer window. If a move can be done, it would certainly be of valuable experience for Murphy to gain regular first team football in the second tier.
