Derby County ready to make a bid to sign Brighton striker

Derby County are preparing to make a bid to sign Brighton striker Jurgen Locadia according to Football Insider.

Derby boss Phillip Cocu worked with the Dutchman during his time in charge of PSV Eindhoven and he is reportedly keen to be reunited with him.

The Rams made a sensational signing yesterday with the arrival of Wayne Rooney and they are now ready to show another sign of intent with Locadia.

Brighton have made the signing of Neal Maupay from Brentford and Locadia could now find his first team chances further limited with his arrival.

Brighton boss Nathan Potter may wish to keep the 25-year-old as cover but it remains to be seen if he would be happy to sit on the bench for the Seagulls.

Locadia has made 41 appearances for Brighton and scored six goals since his arrival from PSV Eindhoven in January 2018.

The Rams may find it difficult to bring Locadia to the club with him having had an impressive pre-season with Brighton and scored and created an assist in a recent pre-season friendly win over Birmingham City.

Previous Brighton boss Chris Hughton never really seemed to get the best out of the striker but under new boss Graham Potter, the Dutchman feels he will continue to benefit from the new tactics and formations implemented by the manager.

Locadia claimed: “I feel it’s probably fair to say that I haven’t shown my full potential here yet. I can give goals and assists, so if I keep this up, I can continue improving. “It’s about being flexible, as a team you know you have to always adapt.”

However with Derby now having Wayne Rooney on their books, a big name in the world of football could be enough to entice new signings to the club.
