Aston Villa striker Scott Hogan is in talks with Stoke City.

The Potters are closing in on the season-long loan signing of the 27-year-old, according to a report by the Daily Mail.

Hogan has fallen down the pecking order at Villa Park and is being allowed to leave on loan again this season following their promotion to the Premier League. He spent the second half of the last campaign at Sheffield United and was part of the Blades that got promoted to the top flight.

Aston Villa paid big money to sign him from Brentford in January 2017 and he has scored 10 times in 61 games for the Midlands outfit.

Hogan had previously bagged 21 goals in 36 games for the Bees and was one of the most prolific strikers in the Championship.

He started his career at Rochdale but dropped into non-league as a youngster and had spells with the likes of Woodley Sports, FC Halifax Town, Stocksbridge Park Steels, Ashton United and Hyde before Rochdale re-signed him in 2013.

Hogan impressed for the Dale during the 2013/14 season and scored 19 goals to earn himself a move to the Championship with Brentford after just a year back at Spotland.

If he can rekindle the form he had at Griffin Park, Hogan could be a shrewd acquisition for Stoke if they are able to bring him in on loan. He will certainly offer them something different in attack.
