Middlesbrough reject £8 million bid from Premier League club for young star

According to a report from Sky Sports News, Premier League side Burnley have had a bid of £8 million for defender Dael Fry turned down by Championship side Middlesbrough.

With the summer transfer window closing on Thursday, clubs up and down the Football League ladder will be looking to pull off their final deals before the window slams shut until the January transfer window. One club that is hoping to bring in some new faces is Middlesbrough, but the Championship side look set for a battle to hold on to one of their players as well.

Young defender Dael Fry has reportedly been the subject of an £8 million bid from Premier League side Burnley, who could be in the market for a new centre-back this summer. Burnley star James Tarkowski is an option for Leicester City as the Foxes look to fill the gap left after Harry Maguire’s £80 million move to Manchester United.

And with Tarkowski possibly moving on, Sean Dyche is keen to bring in Fry to take his place.

Fry has impressed at the Riverside Stadium since making his emergence into the first-team picture. He has made his way through the clubs academy and after a brief loan spell with Rotherham United (10 games), the 21-year-old has made himself a first-team regular. In total, Fry has played 66 times for Boro, providing five assists along the way.

Jonathan Woodgate is keen to keep Fry at Middlesbrough this summer but with Burnley keen, they could look to step up their pursuit for the England youngster once again before the window slams shut.
