Middlesbrough submit £2million bid for Charlton Athletic defender also targeted by Bristol City

Middlesbrough have submitted a bid in the region of £2million for Charlton Athletic defender Anfernee Dijksteel according to Football Insider.

Boro have already seen two bids rejected for the Dutchman but are now returning with an improved bid as they seek to capture him before the closing of the transfer window.

Bristol City have also targeted the defender but Jonathan Woodgate’s men are hopeful they are winning the race to sign him from the Addicks.

The right back role is one that needs filling at the Riverside and this is one of the main priorities for Woodgate this transfer market as he seeks to add further reinforcements.

Charlton are reluctant to lose Dijksteel as they prepare for life back in the Championship having already lost the likes of Joe Aribo and Patrick Bauer this summer but should the right offer be put on the table, they may be forced to.

Dijksteel has represented Holland at Under-20 level and the defender made 39 appearances in all competitions for Charlton last season as they secured promotion via the play-offs.

There have also been reports that the North East club are interested in signing right back Alan Hutton but this is believed to be wide of the mark.

Newly promoted Charlton are working within financial restrictions and manager Lee Bowyer is trying to add more players to his squad.

Middlesbrough are also operating within a new financial plan and they are determined not to pay over the odds for new players this summer and they hope that a resolution can be reached and that the signing of Dijksteel can be made.
