Former England striker urges Norwich City and Sheffield United to make a move for Leeds United star

Former England striker Darren Bent has urged Norwich City and Sheffield United to make a move for Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips according to Football Insider.

Bent believes that Phillips is a Premier League player in the making and deserves his big move to the top flight this summer.

Aston Villa have been the major team to pinpoint their interest in the midfielder and have made bids which have subsequently been rejected by the Yorkshire club.

Earlier this summer, Phillips did reject a new contract with the Whites but they are still hoping they can resolve his future and keep him at the club.

“I’m a big fan of Kalvin Phillips, I think he’s brilliant” Bent said. “He is too good for the Championship and deserves to be playing in the Premier League. He was probably Leeds’ best player last season and one of the best in the division.”

“I can’t see him going to Aston Villa now, as they’ve brought in two new defensive midfielders and I can’t see them signing a third, even though it’s such an important position these days.”

“I would love to see him in the Premier League this season, and he’d be brilliant for one of the two other new boys, Sheffield United and Norwich. I can see one of them getting him. It would need to be a big bid to get him this late in the day.”

Despite the constant speculation regarding his future, Phillips has played a pivotal role in Leeds’ pre-season fixtures and he is expected to start for them as they open their Championship campaign against Bristol City on Sunday.

The 23-year-old does have an affinity with the club he has supported since he was a boy and having progressed through the academy he has proven himself to be one of the most important players in the squad for Marco Bielsa’s side.
