Leeds United young forward completes permanent transfer to League One club

League One side Burton Albion have completed the signing of young forward Oliver Sarkic from Leeds United after the 22-year-old spent a successful stint training with the Brewers.

We reported here on The72 earlier this week that Leeds United forward Oliver Sarkic was attracting interest from clubs abroad and League One side Burton Albion, spending time training with Burton and featuring in one of the Brewers’ pre-season friendlies.

Now, it has been confirmed on Burton Albion’s official club website that Sarkic has left Leeds United to make a move to the Brewers, putting pen to paper on a one-year deal with the League One club.

After joining from Portuguese giants Benfica, Sarkic struggled to make an impact during his short time at Leeds United. He leaves the Whites without making an appearance for the first-team having spent time out on loan with Spanish second division side Barakaldo CF.

Speaking upon the confirmation of his move to Burton, Sarkic has said he is hoping to make his mark on English football with the Brewers after a difficult year and a half with Leeds having suffered from injury problems.

“I loved the game at Chesterfield. I hadn’t previously seen many League One games and I hadn’t expected us to play such good football so I was pleasantly surprised. It’s the type of football I like to play. I really enjoyed it and everything seemed to click into place.

“I’m really impatient to make my mark on English football. Injuries and other circumstances mean I have been quite unfortunate in the last year and a half but now I’m ready to show what I can do.”
