Portsmouth star having medical at Wigan Athletic after £2.5million fee agreed

Portsmouth forward Jamal Lowe is undergoing a medical at Wigan Athletic with a fee having now been agreed between the two clubs according to Football Insider.

Lowe has been the subject of transfer speculation this summer with West Bromwich Albion amongst a host of Championship clubs having chased his signature.

The fee is believed to be around £2.5million and despite Pompey having stood firm over his valuation, terms are now settled between the two clubs.

Barring any unforeseen circumstances and he passes his medical Lowe is set to put pen to paper on a three-year contract before being unveiled as the Latics’ latest summer signing.

He scored 17 goals from 55 matches in all competitions last season and also created nine assists for his teammates as he helped guide Pompey to the play-off semi finals where they lost to Sunderland.

Kenny Jackett’s side were desperately hoping to retain Lowe but with interest from the Championship side intensifying they were concerned as he had entered the final year of his contract at Fratton Park and had a desire to play at a higher level.

Lowe will be reunited with Paul Cook who initially bought him to Portsmouth and gave him his chance in league football after signing him from Hampton & Richmond.

This will be a real coup for Wigan should the move be completed as he has been one of the most sought after players this transfer window.

He has real potential to improve his game and at just 25-years-old he has plenty of maturity to add to his game and could be a real hit at Championship level this season.
