Preston North End man departs after just a year at Deepdale

Preston North End forward Graham Burke has re-joined Shamrock Rovers.

He has signed a 12-month loan deal with the Irish side, as announced by the Lilywhites’ official club website today.

Shamrock have seen off competition from St Pats Athletic for his signature.

Burke only joined Preston in June last year on a three-year deal but has found first team opportunities hard to come by at Deepdale. He was loaned out to League One side Gillingham in the January transfer market and made 12 appearances for the Gills.

The Dublin-born striker, who has made two caps for the Republic of Ireland national team so far in his career, started his career at Aston Villa and rose up through the youth ranks at Villa Park.

He made two senior appearances for the Midlands side and also enjoyed loan spells away as a youngster at Shrewsbury Town and Notts County, the latter of whom made his move there permanent in 2015.

Burke spent two years with the Magpies before moving to the League of Ireland Premier Division to sign for Shamrock Rovers in February 2017.

He became a hit with the Hoops and scored 23 goals in 49 games to earn his move to Preston. However, he has now returned to the Tallaght Stadium now.

Burke could still have a long-term future at Deepdale if he impresses this season.
