Bristol City defender set to join Brighton in £25million deal

Bristol City defender Adam Webster is set to join Brighton and Hove Albion in a deal worth £25million according to The Daily Mirror.

Webster has been the subject of plenty of speculation this summer, with several Premier League clubs including Everton, Newcastle and top flight new boys Aston Villa among those to have been linked with a move for the centre back.

However, with Lewis Dunk also on the radar of top flight clubs Brighton are eager to ensure they have plenty of defensive reinforcements should the 27-year-old leave the AMEX Stadium.

Aston Villa were considered to be one of the favourites for his signature but it appear they have been priced out of a move for the promising defender.

Should Brighton spend in the region of £25million this would break their transfer record and show a real sign of intent to the rest of the bottom half of the Premier League.

The centre back moved to Ashton Gate from Ipswich Town last summer and has gone on to make 47 appearances and score three goals in all competitions during his debut campaign with the Robins.

He has had some impressive performances in the Championship and has become a wanted man in this transfer window but it appears that Graham Potter’s men have won the race for his signature.

With Newcastle facing upheaval following the appointment of Steve Bruce and Everton looking to spend their transfer budget on more attacking players it has paved the way for Brighton to swoop in for the 24-year-old who has a lot of potential and could make a real impact in the Premier League next season.
