Former Leeds United starlet hits hat-trick for new club

Leeds United are a club renowned for their youth set-up. Names such as James Milner, Fabian Delph and Lewis Cook are all established in the Premier League. It is a trend that is continuing

The Whites have just sold teen winger Jack Clarke for £10million to Tottenham Hotspur, before loaning him back for the season. Jamie Shackleton is set to play a solid part this coming season and much is expected of the potential of players such as Lief Davis and Pascal Struijk.

It is a youth set-up that has been rebuilt under the ownership of Andrea Radrizzani, after being allowed to go to seed by former owner Massimo Cellino. Players were brought in from top clubs on the continent, as well as promising youngsters from domestic clubs.

One such domestic player that was brought in by the Whites was Sam Dalby, a striker who arrived from Leyton Orient. The 19-year-old only signed for the Whites in January 2018 and became a regular in Carlos Corberan’s very successful Under-23s. This was a side who won their Professional Development League North title, before defeating Birmingham City to win the national title.

He spent time out on loan last season at League Two side Morecambe. Whilst here he made just two appearances from the substitute’s bench. Whilst there were no audible mutterings that he would be leaving, it seems that this is obviously the case.

He might not have cut the mustard at Elland Road but the former Whites youngster has certainly come out of the blocks for Watford.

A hat-trick is what a striker dreams of, at times, and they are welcomed when they arrive. Dalby’s three-goal blast has certainly announced his arrival. It’s not as if it came against poor-to-mediocre opposition either, the opponents being Red Bull Leipzig’s talented Under-19 side.

There’s a phrase that goes along the lines of ‘start as you mean to go on’. Watford fans will be hoping this is the case whilst Leeds United fans will be hoping that it is not another youngster let go too early, too cheaply.
