Port Vale have signed former Charlton, Grimsby Town and Yeovil Town winger

Port Vale have signed former Charlton, Grimsby Town and Yeovil Town winger Rhys Browne on a one-year deal, confirmed by their club website.

League Two side Port Vale have signed former Charlton, Grimsby Town and Yeovil Town winger Rhys Browne after a successful trial with the club.

Browne was released by Yeovil Town at the end of last season after they suffered relegation from the Football League, he made 30 appearances last season.

The winger began his career with Charlton and he has also played for Aldershot, Grimsby and Macclesfield Town.

Port Vale manager John Askey spoke to the club website about his new signing: “Rhys has done well in the games that he’s played. It’s a shame he’s picked up a bit of a hamstring injury but I’m sure he’ll be back fit soon.

“He gives us another option, he can go past people, he’s quick, strong and he’s got a goal in him. We’ve got good options now up front and out wide.

“Rhys can play down the middle, out wide and either side likewise with David Amoo and Monty. David Worrall can also rotate as well so we’ve got plenty of options.

Last week, Port Vale signed Callum Evans from Macclesfield Town on a one-year deal as Askey looks to bolster his squad.

Askey told BBC Sport: “I’ve had Callum before, he’s got a decent pedigree.

“He’s from Bristol but he was at Manchester United as a youngster. He played for me when we got promoted and he’s only 23 so there’s more to come from him.”
