According to the Hull Live’s Jonty Coleman, Newcastle United are refusing to be drawn any higher in their pursuit of Tigers star Jarrod Bowen.
Bowen has lit up the KCOM over the last two seasons, ending as the club’s leading scorer in both. He is a dynamic winger possessing both electric pace and more than a keen eye for goal. Across the last two Championship seasons, Bowen has sparkled his way to an astonishing 36 goals and six assists.
Last season the Leominster-born winger was a 46-game ever-present for the Tigers and this was reflected in the 24 goals and four assists that he returned for the East Yorkshire side. However, the downside of this is that such output invariably draws attention and that attention has come from Premier League NecastleUnited.
The Toon are in transition at the moment, with the disputed appointment of former Villa nd Sheffield Wednesday boss Steve Bruce filling the gap left by the let-go Rafa Benitez. Having recently blown their record transfer out of the water to land Brazilian striker Joelinton for £40million, they remain reluctant to splash out further Bowen.
The Chronicle Live, through their reporter Lee Ryder, say that Newcastle United are “baulking at the £20million price tag the Tigers are asking for” when it comes to a Bowen sale. That price would eclipse the £17million deal that saw Tigers defender Harry Maguire leave for Leicester City.
In one way, it is inconceivable that Hull City will keep Bowen this transfer window, given his goal return from last season alone. Should the former Hereford United youngster continue this scoring streak from August-January, then expect teams to be queuing up with club cheque books in hand.
