Preston North End see approach for winger rebuffed by Celtic

Celtic have rejected a loan bid by Preston North End for winger Scott Sinclair.

The Scottish Premiership champions are only interested in selling him this summer, according to a report by Football Scotland.

Alex Neil’s Preston are in the hunt for a replacement for Callum Robinson, who left them to join Premier League side Sheffield United.

Sinclair, who is 30 years-old, has been linked with a move to Deepdale recently but the Championship side will have to put their hands in their pockets if they are to lure him to Lancashire before the start of the season.

He joined Celtic three years ago and has helped them win the title every season he has been at the club. He has made 153 appearances altogether and has scored 60 goals.

Prior to his move up the border, Sinclair started out at Bristol Rovers before joining Chelsea in 2005. He played 14 times for the Blues and had loan spells away at Plymouth Argyle, QPR, Charlton Athletic, Crystal Palace, Birmingham City and Wigan Athletic.

Swansea City signed him in 2010 and he became a key player for the Welsh side. He played a key part in their promotion to the top flight in his first season there and was later snapped up by Manchester City.

It didn’t work out for him in Manchester and he left for a stint at Aston Villa before moving to Celtic. Could Sinclair be on his way back to England now?
