Sheffield United capture their seventh summer signing ahead of Premier League return

Sheffield United have today completed the signing of fans’ favourite Dean Henderson on a season-long loan deal as confirmed on their official website.

Henderson spent last season on loan at Bramall Lane from Manchester United and was incredibly impressive in his goalkeeping duties.

The formalities of the deal took some time to iron out but Blades’ boss Chris Wilder is delighted to have captured his number one target this summer.

“Dean was always our number one target,” said Wilder. “We’ve had to fight to get a good deal and that’s part and parcel of our approach in the transfer market. All of us, from myself, to the coaching staff, to the player and the supporters want him playing for us in the Premier League and with a lot of hard work we’ve made that happen.”

The 22-year-old is expected to be the number one goalkeeper for the season with Simon Moore and Marcus Dewhurst providing cover as able deputees.

Prior to joining the Blades for the entirety of the 2018/19 season, Henderson had successful loan spells at Shrewsbury Town and Grimsby Town.

It was no secret of Henderson’s desire to return to Sheffield United following their promotion to the Premier League last term. He has recently signed a new contract with parent club Manchester United thus showing his long term future still remains at Old Trafford.

However, with David De Gea’s place in goal under no real threat it makes perfect sense for Henderson to continue his development at the newly promoted side to gain more first team experience, this time in the Premier League.

Henderson expressed his delight on his official Twitter page at the move finally being completed.
