QPR emerge as favourites to sign Chelsea defender despite Middlesbrough and Charlton Athletic interest

Queens Park Rangers are emerging as favourites to sign Chelsea defender Todd Kane according to Football Insider.

Middlesbrough and Charlton Athletic have also shown an interest in Kane but it is now believed that QPR are the front runners to land the Blues man.

He is available on a free transfer after his contract with Frank Lampard’s men expired, but looks set to stay in the capital with QPR leading the chase.

Kane met with QPR boss Mark Warburton and was left impressed with the manager’s vision for the club.

The right-back performed well last season whilst on loan at fellow Championship side Hull City making 41 appearances in all competitions and QPR are now ready to offer him a deal at Loftus Road.

The right back slot is one which the R’s are looking to strengthen having sold their previous number one in that position, Darnell Furlong to West Bromwich Albion.

Kane is blessed with versatility with the 25-year-old being more than capable of playing at left back and also in central midfield.

Warburton is looking to add plenty of strength in depth to his squad ahead of the upcoming Championship and the rising defender could be the ideal acquisition to the ranks.

With Kane being available on a free transfer this would allow the London side to spend their small transfer on other areas of the squad and would present no real gamble for the club.

The defender has also had brief periods at Nottingham Forest, Bristol City and Preston North End further highlighting his experience at Championship level.
