Salford City sign Middlesbrough striker on permanent deal

Middlesbrough striker Luke Armstrong has signed for League Two new boys Salford City, with the youngster penning a three-year deal.

The news was confirmed on Middlesbrough’s official website, with Boro Head Coach Jonathan Woodgate giving a short interview on why the promising striker was allowed to leave the club on a permanent basis.

“Luke’s at an age where he needs to be playing regular football,” said Woodgate. “I couldn’t guarantee him that here, but he has done well in his loan spells before, and when Salford came in with an offer, it suited both parties.

“Luke departs with our very best wishes for the future” he said.

Armstrong made three appearances for Boro in the EFL trophy. He didn’t play for the senior team however, but he did feature prominently for the Teessiders in pre-season in the run up to the upcoming campaign.

Upon signing, the 23-year old spoke of his delight of arriving at Salford with the club’s website.

“[I’m] over the moon, no better feeling!” he said. “It’s a club that’s really ambitious, looking to go places and I think it could be a great platform for me.”

“I’m looking to help the club get up to where they want to be.

“I work hard, a physical forward, I like to get goals, get in the box, mainly work hard for the team.

“As a forward I like to vary it up, do a bit of both, hold up play and run in behind as well, cause problems that way.
