The Brazilian fell out of favour with Wolves under Nuno Espirito Santo despite having an amazing first season for the side from the West Midlands.

In his first season in the Championship, he was one of the key reasons why they got promoted.

In 42 appearances in the 2017-28 Championship season for Wolves, the 25-year-old scored 12 goals and gained five assists.

However he fell down the pecking order in Wolves first Premier League season last season, as they signed the likes of Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota who were the two main strikers for Wolves last season.

As a result of falling out of favour last season, The Brazilian made a January loan switch to Nottingham Forest.

That loan move didn’t help reignite Bonatini’s career, as he only made five appearances in the Championship, scoring zero goals for Nottingham Forest.

But Reading may offer the Brazilian another chance to reignite his career.

The Royals are in search of a new striker, and Bonatini has no joined the list with the likes of Ross McCormack and Gary Hooper as strikers that Reading are interested in.

“We need some strike power”

In a recent interview done with BBC radio Berkshire, Reading  CEO Nigel Howe admitted that the Royals are in search for a new striker to help strengthen a potential promotion bid.

“We need some strike power,” said Howe on BBC Radio Berkshire .

“I think we’ve always said that everybody knows there’s a rough guide that if you can score around 80 goals in your team, then you’ll probably be around the play-offs, if not automatic promotion.

“Many managers I’ve had have looked around the team and said ‘Nigel, I can’t see 80 goals – can we have this player or that player?’

“Jose [Gomes] is a deep-thinking guy and I think at the moment he’s spotted he can’t see the 80 goals that he needs to see [for the team to do well].”

Reading have let a few strikers leave the club already this summer. Marc McNulty was allowed to leave on loan to Sunderland, and Jon Dadi Bodvarsson completed a permanent move to Championship rivals Millwall.

On loan Reading striker Nelson Oliveira  didn’t rejoin the Royals, as he completed his move to Greek side AEK Athens.

So it isn’t a surprise that the priority position for the Royals in the remainder of this transfer window is to secure a new striker for the upcoming Championship season.
