Middlesbrough identify Blackpool left-back as top target

According to The Football Insider journalist Pete O’Rourke, Middlesbrough are plotting a move for Blackpool defender Marc Bola.

The young left-back has been identified as the club’s top target according to the report, and Middlesbrough will make a move for the defender this transfer window.

With the window due to shut in just over two weeks time, Jonathan Woodgate’s side are looking to get a few new faces through the door after making just one new signing so far this summer.

Boro are in the market for a full-back, having had a bid rejected for fellow League One full-back Anfernee Dijksteel at Charlton earlier this week, they are now set to enquire about the availability of Blackpool’s Marc Bola.

The 21-year old joined the Tangerines for free last season, following his release from Arsenal’s illustrious academy. He was mightily impressive in the 2018/19 campaign, making 35 league appearances in the third tier and scoring two goals in the process.

He has also had loan spells from Arsenal to Notts County and Bristol Rovers, and he has good experience in the EFL. Now Middlesbrough are wanting to give the Englishman a chance in the Championship. No figure is yet to be reported, and it is expected that the Teessiders would pursue a permanent deal as opposed to a temporary loan.

George Friend is the only natural senior full-back currently at Woodgate’s disposal. Although Jonny Howson and Ryan Shotton have covered at right-back last season and in pre-season this year, their more natural positions are in central-midfield and as a centre-back respectively.
