Peterborough United’s transfer-listed midfielder could be set for stay after impressive pre-season

It was reported here on The72 earlier this summer that Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson was ready to give transfer-listed midfielder Mark O’Hara a second chance, bringing him in the club’s pre-season trip to La Manga.

Darren Ferguson was keen to see what Mark O’Hara could bring to his squad, having not seen him play during his third stint as Peterborough United manager. The Scottish midfielder was loaned out to Lincoln City in January and Fergie had not seen him in action until this summer.

And, after an impressive pre-season, Ferguson has revealed that O’Hara is “making a strong case” for remaining at London Road, working hard during the off-season and providing his versatility when dropping into a deeper role at times.

Speaking to the Peterborough Telegraph, Ferguson said:

“Mark’s a great character and his attitude has been fantastic all summer.

“He puts everything into every game and that is at the top of the list as far as what I want from my players.

“I wanted to give him a chance as I wasn’t here when he went out on loan last season and I wasn’t here when he first went on the transfer list. He’s done well and it hasn’t done him any harm that he has shown he could play as a centre-back.

“The priority for the club at the moment is to get some players off the books. We have to do that as we have signed nine players since the end of last season, but Mark is making a strong case to stay.”

O’Hara made an impressive, goalscoring start to life in Peterborough, starring in Steve Evans’ midfield. However, after falling out of favour in the next few months, the Scot was loaned out to Lincoln City, who he helped win promotion to League One. The Imps were interested in bringing O’Hara back, but it seems their interest has slowed somewhat in recent weeks.
