Blackburn Rovers and Wigan Athletic’s reported interest in Hibs striker denied by Paul Heckingbottom

Speaking to Edinburgh News (as cited by the Lancashire Telegraph), Hibernian manager Paul Heckingbottom has denied reports claiming that striker Oli Shaw is attracting attention from Championship sides Blackburn Rovers and Wigan Athletic.

We covered a report from the Edinburgh Evening News claiming that Blackburn Rovers and Wigan Athletic were among a host of Championship sides in holding interest in young Hibernian striker Oli Shaw.

Despite his tender years, Shaw has made 58 appearances for the Hibernian first-team since coming through the club’s youth sides, he has scored 12 goals and provided four assists along the way, spending a short time on loan with Stenhousemuir in the 2016/17 campaign.

Seven of his 12 goals for the club came last season, playing in 35 games across all competitions for the club as Paul Heckingbottom’s side finished in 5th place in the league.

Speaking about the rumoured interest in the young striker, Heckingbottom revealed that he has heard nothing of interest in Shaw, adding that he remains a big part of his plans at Easter Road.

“What do you want me to say on it?” Heckingbottom said.

“The amount of stuff I read that’s rubbish. No-one has spoken to me, whether it’s someone trying to drum up interest. It’s down to Oli, he’s certainly come back in much better nick than he finished the season in.

“We were really clear in what we wanted and it’s down to him to get into the team, there is a pathway there. If he is performing well he will be in the team.”
