Reading on verge of striking deal for ex-Sunderland and Rangers loanee

Reading are closing in on the signing of Liverpool midfielder Ovie Ejaria on loan again.

The Royals are hoping to conclude a deal to bring the 21-year-old back to the Madejski Stadium, according to a report by the Chronicle.

The London-born midfielder played a key part in the Royals’ survival in the Championship last season and made 16 appearances.

Ejaria is being allowed to leave Liverpool on loan again this summer to gain some more first team experience with his pathway into the Reds’ senior side blocked by an abundance of top players.

He spent the second-half of the 2017/18 campaign at Sunderland but couldn’t prevent the North-East side from relegation to League One.

Ejaria was then shipped out on loan in the Scottish Premier League with Rangers for the first half of last season and played 28 games for the Ibrox side in all competitions and chipped in with two goals.

The London-born midfielder started his career at Arsenal and rose through the youth ranks at the Emirates Stadium. However, he made the switch to their Premier League rivals Liverpool in 2014.

Ejaria made his first-team debut for the Reds in September 2016 in a League Cup tie against Derby County. He has since made seven more appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side and has also represented England at both Under-20 and Under-21 level.

Bringing him back to Reading is a shrewd move by Jose Gomes.
