Ipswich Town starlet attracting Premier League interest

Ipswich Town midfielder Andre Dozzell has attracted Premier League interest not too far from home, in the form of arch-rivals Norwich City, according to the East Anglian Daily Times.

The 20-year-old is out of contract at the end of next summer and is no stranger to interest from higher levels since making his debut in 2016 aged only 16 and has represented England’s U20 3 times. Earlier this summer, it was rumoured that Norwich’s fellow Premier League outfit Brighton and Hove Albion were also interested in capturing the signature of the exciting prospect, but it has emerged that Norwich are indeed now the front runners for the signing.

Ipswich are, however, according to HITC keen on renewing the youngster’s contract to fend off the interest from their East Anglian rivals and have apparently now opened talks with the midfielder. The League One outfit are understood to have the option of an additional year on Dozzell’s contract and are hoping to tie him down ahead of the beginning of their first season in the third tier since 1957.

Dozzell, despite making his first-team debut way back in 2016, only began to start games for The Tractor Boys consistently last season when he made 21 appearances, scoring once. This is due to some injury setbacks. At the beginning of the 2017-2018 season, the midfielder tore his cruciate ligament which ruled him out for the remainder of the campaign. The youngster has apparently impressed Paul Lambert during pre-season, taking up a deep-lying midfield role and linking play with the strikers from deep.
