Millwall lodge bid for Wycombe Wanderers defender

Millwall have made a bid for Wycombe Wanderers right-back Jason McCarthy.

The Lions are eager to boost their defensive options by landing the League One defender, according to a report by Football Insider.

McCarthy, who is 23 years-old, impressed last season at Wycombe and could be set to earn himself a move to the Championship before the start of the next campaign.

Millwall have so far brought in Frank Fielding, Matt Smith, Alex Pearce and Jon Dadi Bodvarsson so far in this transfer window and are keen on more signings over the next two weeks.

McCarthy would be a shrewd signing for Neil Harris’ side as he is young and would give them more depth in defence.

The 6ft 1inc defender started his career at Southampton and rose up through the youth ranks at St Mary’s. He made his first and only first team appearance for the Saints in a Premier League fixture against Crystal Palace in December 2014.

McCarthy got his first taste of regular senior football on loan at Wycombe in the 2015/16 season and then spent the campaign after at Walsall.

Barnsley snapped him up on a permanent deal in the summer of 2017 and he spent a year with the Tykes in the Championship before returning to Wycombe last year.

Millwall will be eager to await the response of the Chairboys to their bid for McCarthy.
