Charlton Athletic leading the race for young Chelsea starlet

Charlton Athletic are leading the race for Chelsea youngster Conor Gallagher according to Football.London.

The Academy Player of the Year is believed to be available on loan for the upcoming season and the Addicks are interested in the promising starlet.

The teenage has traveled with Chelsea on their pre-season but Frank Lampard is willing to allow him to go out and gain more valuable first team experience at a lower league side.

Charlton achieved promotion to the Championship earlier this summer as they beat Sunderland in the Play-Off final and they are looking to add some quality additions this transfer window as they aim to survive in the second tier of English football.

Gallagher did make the bench for the Blues in their Europa League final but he was an unused substitute. His appearance on the bench however, highlights the potential that Chelsea clearly believe he has.

After an impressive season in the UEFA Youth League and Development Squad, Galllagher was named the Academy Player of the Year for the 2018/19 campaign.

Chelsea have already allowed than Ampadu to seal a season-long loan move to RB Leipzig for next season and now Gallagher could be following him out of Stamford Bridge as their youngsters look to progress in their development towards the first team.

The central midfielder could certainly improve Charlton’s squad and Lee Bowyer would surely be delighted should the move materialise.

Gallagher came through the Chelsea ranks and is a versatile player having previously featured out wide but he has really impressed since his switch to the centre of midfield.
