Over the course of the past few days, the situation surrounding West Brom’s interest in Sporting Lisbon winger Matheus Pereira has brought around some conflicting reports.
It was reported earlier last week that West Brom were keen to sign Brazilian winger Matheus Pereira on loan from Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon, with manager Slaven Bilic keen to continue his raid on the Primera Liga after bringing in Croatian playmaker Filip Krovinovic.
Shortly after, it was claimed that the Baggies had pulled out of the running in the chase for Pereira having been unable to come to an agreement over a deal with Sporting Lisbon. However, it has now been claimed by Portuguese outlet Record (as cited by Sport Witness) that West Brom are still in talks with Lisbon over a deal for Pereira.
The report adds that developments are expected soon surrounding Pereira’s situation, with a number of clubs across Europe interested in recruiting him this summer. German side Schalke are said keen on Pereira, and it will be interesting to see if the deal develops quickly and if it is West Brom or another club that completes a deal for the winger, who is looking increasingly likely to make a move away.
Pereira, 23, is a Brazilian winger ho can play on either the left-wing or the right-wing. He has made his breakthrough into senior football after coming through the Sporting Lisbon youth academy and could be set for another season out on loan.
He spent last season on loan in Germany with FC Nuremberg, playing 19 games along the way (three goals, two assists). The season prior to last he joined CD Chaves on loan, where he scored eight goals and provided five assists in 30 appearances.
His time at Sporting Lisbon has mainly been with the club’s b-team, but he has also played 27 times for the senior side, scoring six and assisting four goals in 27 matches.
