Spanish giants Sevilla are plotting a move for Reading winger Modou Barrow, according to Spanish news outlet ElGol Digital.

The Gambian winger joined the Royals from fellow Championship side Swansea City and in 2017 after a series of unsuccessful loan spells elsewhere and has since become something of a fans favourite at the Madejski Stadium.

Interest in the 26-year-old has been rife throughout the transfer window so far with Reading already turning down several loan-to-buy deals from Turkish top-flight clubs with the interest forcing the club’s Chinese owners to produce a statement claiming Barrow is not for sale, ‘even for £10million’.

The interest comes after Reading impressed in a pre-season friendly against the Spanish giants, who fielded a strong starting XI against the Championship outfit. An Andrija Novakovich header put the Royals ahead before a penalty and then a late Sevilla goal turned the scoreline around.

Modou Barrow was particularly impressive throughout and caused the Sevilla defence serious problems with his blistering pace and direct dribbling style that has made him a handful for Championship full-backs for the past two seasons.

His ten league goals for the club were vital to survival in the 2017/18 season and while his goal contributions were more modest last term it was clear to see how Barrow brought the best out of top scorer Yakou Meite.

Interest from a seriously reputable club like Sevilla may be hard to turn down and should the club make an official bid, Reading could find one of their most talented attacking players seriously unsettled at the club.
