Barnsley complete the signing of Coventry City attacker

Sky Bet Championship club Barnsley have completed the signing of Coventry City attacker Conor Chaplin according to the club’s official website.

The 22-year-old Worthing-born forward has been expected to sign on at Oakwell for several days and it has now been revealed that the deal has been finalised.

Chaplin has signed a four-year contract with the South Yorkshire club while The Tykes have paid an undisclosed fee to Coventry City to secure the player’s services.

After graduating from the academy system at Sky Bet League One club Portsmouth, Chaplin went on to make 122 senior appearances for the South Coast club in which he scored 25 goals. The player was a member of the Portsmouth side which won promotion from Sky Bet League Two in 2016/2017.

Chaplin joined latest Coventry City on loan last August and the arrangement was made permanent in January with the attacker having impressed in a short period of time at The Ricoh Arena. Chaplin netted eight goals in 32 outings for The Sky Blues throughout last season.

The signing of Chaplin is Barnsley’s 10th addition of the summer. The player could be in-line for his first appearance for the club when they take on English Premier League new boys Sheffield United at Oakwell next Saturday in a pre-season friendly match.
