Leeds United misfit sale falls through – striker to return to England

Stefan Andreasson – the club director of Swedish side Elfsborg – has confirmed that the club will not be signing Leeds United striker Pawel Cibicki, with the parties unable to come to an agreement over a deal.

Speaking to the media (quotes via Leeds Live), Eflsborg club director Stefan Andreasson has revealed that the Allsvenskan club will not be signing Leeds United striker Pawel Cibicki this summer.

We reported here on The72 earlier this week that Elfsborg manager Jimmy Thelin was keen to bring Cibicki back to the club on a permanent basis after his loan spell came to an end, with Thelin stating that he was a very important player for the club.

Now, however, it has been seemingly confirmed that they will not be signing the Swedish striker. Andreasson said:

“We have not been able to find a solution for a continuation, which means that Pawel returns to England tomorrow. We thank Pawel for this time and wish him all the best.”

Cibicki joined Leeds United in the summer of 2017 and since then he has failed to make an impact. In his first season with the club, the 25-year-old played nine games in all competitions, failing to score once but providing two assists along the way.

Since the arrival of Marcelo Bielsa, Cibicki’s chances of forging a career at Elland Road have only been dented. He spent last season on loan with Elsborg and it seemed he was set to make a permanent move there after a successful loan stint. However, Andreasson’s latest words have dismissed the chances of a permanent switch.
