Coventry City receive fresh bid from Championship side for star attacker

Newly promoted Championship side Barnsley have launched a new and improved bid for Coventry’s Connor Chaplin, according to CoventryLive.

The Tykes had seen an initial bid of around £700,000 turned down by Coventry at the start of the summer window, but are still keen on capturing the 22 year old and thus have bid yet again, with the Sky Blues likely to make a substantial profit on the £500,000 paid for him last summer in his move from Portsmouth after a successful loan stint at the Ricoh.

Chaplin is said to be in South Yorkshire at Barnsley today to discuss personal terms with the club and to have a medical to complete his move. Barnsley have been apparent admirers of Chaplin’s for quite some time and were said to be close to signing him last year, but Pompey opted to sell to Coventry instead so as to not sell direct to a potential promotion rival, although this proved not to be an issue as Barnsley raced to automatic promotion with Portsmouth falling at the last hurdle in the playoffs at the hand of Sunderland.

Coventry would need to in the market for a player to replace the prolific Chaplin, with the likes of Nottingham Forest’s Tyler Walker apparently the top target of Mark Robin’s replacement list after netting an impressive 26 times for League Two Mansfield last season, who narrowly missed out on automatic promotion on the final day and ultimately fell short in the playoffs as well.
